Tepua

Name: Tepua
Classification: Flora
Level: Seedling [1-5] Mature [6-10]
Habitat: Marsh, Bog
Lifespan: Undetermined

Uses:
  • Pods produced by the tepua plant house paralyzing gasses. These pods can be carefully harvested and used as basic grenade-type weapons which explode on impact to release the gasses within.
  • Tepua pollen is, after careful processing, highly restorative. Unfortunately, a high amount of pollen is required to produce a very small amount of potion so the pollen is extremely expensive.

Description:

The bulk of the tepua consists of the flower itself. Standing at various sizes, depending on its age and rate of feeding, it has been known to tower over the tallest man and bloom wider than the length of a horse.

Almost as if signifying its carnivorous appetite, the flower's inner petals are a deep blood-red color while the outer petals are a rich green. Its inner stem reaches great height at the center of the flower and it has leaves that look much like vines or roots. Most of these leaves carry pods of various sizes, spread out in a way that allows the plant's radius - and its hunting grounds - to broaden when necessary.

Abilities:

Tepua are carnivorous plants. They extend their leaves and pods, acting much like a trap, and wait for their prey to wander by. As the trap is sprung, the pods are opened to release a paralyzing gas that renders the victim helpless. As the gas slowly begins to take effect, the creature slips into a deep coma and the plant feeds on the nutrients and minerals in the body. Death can occur anywhere from one to ten days later depending on the rate of feeding.

Weaknesses:

Tepua thrive off the acidic waters in the bog. Fresh water unbalances their growth, causing them to sicken and wither.
