Ranks and Levels

There are currently two separate hierarchies on Elysian Fields, each one meaning something different.

Levels are the most important and are the OOC representation of your character's skill. Levels determine what abilities and weaknesses your character has as well as which areas they can visit within Elysia.

Forum ranks are pure fluff and can largely be ignored.

Levels

There are ten standard character levels not including Elite, Aide and Deity levels. Each one requires a minimum post count but we also look at your use of your character's traits in your posts. Think of it as a game like Final Fantasy - in order to level up you need experience points; and in order to gain experience points you must defeat monsters by using your character's abilities.

We don't expect you to spend all your time battling monsters to gain experience; we simply ask you to use what traits your character has and this can be done just as easily in non-violent roleplay. Otherwise, you may as well have created a human character with no abilities at all. ;)

Our administrators look for characters who are ready to level up once a week so if you don't immediately notice any change after reaching the minimum requirement of posts, don't fret. It could just be you missed an update and will be promoted next time around. However, if you feel you've been overlooked and that you've been using your character's traits (or simply would like to know more about the levelling criteria) then you can PM Xanth for more information.

As your character levels up, you'll gain access to more IC areas and abilities as well as a few OOC perks such as extra storage space for PMs and permission to use HTML in your posts. Along with the ten level usergroups, there are nine special groups.

Usergroups

• Deities are full administrators who have the final say in all OOC and IC matters.
• Aides are global moderators with limited member administration permission and special IC powers.
• Watchers are the moderators of our in-character boards.
• Retired Aides are members who once served Xanth as Aides but had to retire. They kept their special Aide abilities and are still more powerful than Elysia's elite characters, as well as keeping a few OOC perks, but no longer act as administrators or moderators.
• Lesser Gods are special Aide-run NPCs of the Tanakheim race. They do not belong to any particular player (though certain Aides may have an attachment to a particular LG) nor are they required to be active at all times. They have no administrator or moderator privileges and can only post in IC areas.
• NPCs are non-player characters and accounts used by staff or members including the Bank, public-access NPC and staff-run ONPC accounts.
• Newcomers are newly registered members who've yet to make a post on the forums.
• The Missing list is for characters who haven't posted in over two weeks. These characters have a special field in their sidebar telling you if they're on holiday or if their players have disappeared so you can roleplay accordingly.
• Cublings are members who have received so many official warnings from moderators that they've lost a number of privileges and have been bumped into a special group so they can't use the bank system or post in any area above level one.
• Deceased characters are ones whose players have chosen to kill them off.
• Banned members will be posted in the Obituaries with a brief explanation as to why they were banned along with a note about how to kill their characters or remove them from any active threads.

Forum Ranks

There are eight forum ranks that have absolutely nothing to do with anything and are pure fluff. Determined by your post count, they mark your activity up to 600 posts, at which time you may have a custom title instead.
