1 A demesne is made up of all the things living within its borders, from the trees and shrubs to the animals and even single-celled organisms. These contribute to a demesne's collective consciousness, but as individuals are called "Aspects" and are the Warden's tools of choice. ⇑ 2 "Grouped Aspects" are Aspects that are physically touching, thus extending the Warden's range of awareness at any given time. This could mean connecting with a tree and two insects that are touching it, but that would really be a waste of time since the tree would pass on its awareness of the insects anyway. The best use, as an example, would be to connect to three trees instead, which would extend the Warden's awareness encompass all the other Aspects within the trees' personal environments as well. ⇑ 3 The "personal environment" of an Aspect is usually just enough space for its own survival. A tree, for instance, might only be aware of the demesne to the extent of its own roots and branches; however, there may be a lot of other Aspects living within that environment. The same tree, for instance, would give the Warden an extended awareness of all the insects, birds, animals and fungi touching it at any given time. ⇑ 4 Commanding Aspects may be as simple as shouting "Help!" into the demesne's collective consciousness. Only a certain percentage of the demesne's Aspects will "hear" the command, and how they respond will differ according to exactly what kind of Aspect they are. (Animals, for instance, can race to bare fangs and claws, but trees aren't mobile and might only knit its branches together to make a route impassable.) ⇑ 5 "Separate Aspects" are ones that aren't physically touching, and could be right next to each other or at opposite ends of a grove. A Warden will often choose "favourites" which she thinks will grant her the best "view" of her demesne without having to connect and disconnect repeatedly, and will look to Aspects that come into contact with other Aspects regularly throughout the day. (For instance, she might connect with the fruit-laden tree at the top of the hill so she can get "updates" from birds and monkeys as they come to feed. Likewise, she might connect with a wolf as it patrols its territory so as to survey her demesne while on the move, or even a bird on the wing.) ⇑ Page last modified on May 29, 2011, at 10:54 AM |
