Shadow Blossom

A Shadow Blossom in the Fae Forest

This will add the plant's icon to the top right of the page. (New submissions won't have them unless you want to make one yourself but if one already exists then it's a shame to waste it.) Just replace the "/.." with "/NAME OF ICON" (eg. "/chiolen.png" or "/ilari.png" to get something like ""). You can delete this comment once your creature's profile is complete.)

Make sure you uncomment the image code. Just drag the ">>comment<<" line under the "%rfloat…" bit, or it won't display. ;)

Name: Shadow Blossom (Shiny Petal)

Size: Tiny

Region: Forest

Lifespan: Shadow Blossoms exist for as long as the tree it is feeding on lives. Often, the presence of a Shadow Blossom among the tree's roots also indicate the age of the tree.

Appearance

The weed takes on the appearance of a flower with a deep stigma and its silky petals surrounding it like one continuous skirt. They do not have much stem and do not have leaves, as well. The petals, depending on the amount of light, may be silvery or grayish.

Attach:… Δ You can use this code to upload an image file for your plant (ie. artwork you've made yourself or have permission to use). Replace the ":…" with ":FILENAME" (eg. "Attach:chiolenbyevie.png ΔAttach:windfurbyskyla.png Δ").

The file *must* be an image (eg. .jpg, .png, .gif) to work, and the file name *must* include your OOC name/alias (to help keep things in the web folder tidy and also to help prevent theft of your work). Please be kind to our server and don't upload big files. ;)

Make sure you uncomment the attach code. Just drag the ">>comment<<" line under the "Attach:… Δ" bit, or it won't display. ;)

If you don't want to include an image, delete this section. If you'd like to upload one at a later time, just leave this section commented out for future use. :)

Behaviour

Although named after the Shadowkin who has the ability to fade in and out of shadows, the Shadow Blossom does not actually do that. Their manner of "fading out" is attributed to a reflective matter found particularly in their petals that allows them to blend into the shadows usually of the trees whose roots they reside in. Aside from that, the presence of light is considered poisonous to these plants so they tend to shrink at the presence of one and blossom healthily at its absence.

Diet: The Shadow Blossom normally leeches on the nutrients of the trees they sprout from. For so long as the tree is healthy, they will be able to feed themselves.

Habitat: The Shadow Blossom withers under direct sunlight and thrives in the shadowy, cold nooks of the forests. For this matter, its most suitable season is winter while summer may be considered lethal to it if it does not have enough shadow to hide it from the sunlight. It relies more on the quantity of light than the temperature that surrounds it.

Reproduction: There hasn't been an obvious way found out on how the plant reproduces. They simply appear and die after.

Special Information

Weaknesses: Sunlight and high temperature.

Uses: Ruby Weevils are known to lay their eggs in the stigma of the Shadow Blossom or underneath its petals.

Origin: Shadow Blossoms have been noted to grow on old roots with a build up of moisture. Hunters in the southern hemisphere also believe in the superstition that wherever a Shadowkin appears, a Shadow Blossom grows.

Other Info: Its other name is "Shiny Petal" which relates to the reflective nature of its petals and is often deemed as more appropriate especially by the academic experts.

Creator: Liv

Replace the "…" with your OOC name/alias (eg. Emma - make sure you include the squiggle ~ symbol in profile links!). It will link to your wiki profile, which you can then use to link to your characters and describe a bit about yourself (or enter our profile war! *bwahahahahaaha*). :)

Add tags as necessary (see http://faroah.com/efwiki/index.php/Category/Category for more information). Make sure to leave in the [[!Plants] tag and to copy the tags from the Size and Region fields also. ;) Also make sure to delete any erroneous tags that might be pulled from comments.
