Dophis

http://faroah.com/info/images/races/botany/.. This will add the plant's icon to the top right of the page. (New submissions won't have them unless you want to make one yourself but if one already exists then it's a shame to waste it.) Just replace the "/.." with "/NAME OF ICON" (eg. "/chiolen.png" or "/ilari.png" to get something like ""). You can delete this comment once your creature's profile is complete.)

Make sure you uncomment the image code. Just drag the ">>comment<<" line under the "%rfloat…" bit, or it won't display. ;)

Name: Dophis

Size: Small

Region: Grassland

Lifespan: The Dophis weed can live for an unspecified amount of time so long as it has a stable source of soil, air and water although the more religious believers of the goddess Xanth might say that it is her blood and magic that provides the Dophis its extensive lifespan.

Appearance

True to its other name, the weed has an overall hue of purple. Its base and stem white and tough and the leaves start as pink buds, turning purple in color as they grow. A lone weed might have at least three stems or at most seven. While it hasn't been proven to be poisonous or anything dangerous, most garden owners find its appearance almost "poisonous" which is why they prefer the untamed weeds to be removed, aside from how it steals nutrients from its surrounding plants.

Attach:… Δ You can use this code to upload an image file for your plant (ie. artwork you've made yourself or have permission to use). Replace the ":…" with ":FILENAME" (eg. "Attach:chiolenbyevie.png ΔAttach:windfurbyskyla.png Δ").

The file *must* be an image (eg. .jpg, .png, .gif) to work, and the file name *must* include your OOC name/alias (to help keep things in the web folder tidy and also to help prevent theft of your work). Please be kind to our server and don't upload big files. ;)

Make sure you uncomment the attach code. Just drag the ">>comment<<" line under the "Attach:… Δ" bit, or it won't display. ;)

If you don't want to include an image, delete this section. If you'd like to upload one at a later time, just leave this section commented out for future use. :)

Behaviour

There is no saying when or where a Dophis plant might just sprout.

Diet: It has no special need which is why it is difficult to control.

Habitat: The Dophis weed may be popular in a number of gardens as well as the wilder grasslands.

Reproduction: No one really knows how the Dophis weed is created, it just appears on its own. A single spot might have at most two Dophis weeds but normally, two weeds are separated from each other by at least half an arm's length.

Special Information

Uses: Some poorer communities have a history of eating the Dophis weed although some experts say that it has no health benefits. Fanatics of the goddess Xanth are also known to feed on the weeds as they believe that it provides them a keener link with the deity. Aside from that, most people see it as a nuisance plant.

Origin: No one knows when or where the Dophis weed started (although some are certain it is around the area of Alexshire) however, there has been a few myths as to its origins, most popular of which was the story of how Xanth took pity on a famished family and let herself bleed on the grasses and gave birth to the first Dophis weed. Others prefer the story of a battle between the gods which Xanth had won for the good side but just the same, her blood had been the source of the weed's life. These myths also give reason to its other name "Xanth's Favor".

A superstition popular among believers also rules that before a weed can be pulled, a prayer must be said to Xanth. Not doing so would lure bad fortune towards the person or into the household although some versions insist upon the death of a loved one.

Other info: The Priests of Xanth refuse to recognize it as a weed in spite of its characteristics, however they are hesitant to use Xanth's name to refer to a weed which is why they insisted upon its alias instead.
