The White City

The White City is Nirim's only settlement to date, founded just a decade ago when the dragons finally agreed to allow entry to their realm for their Dracovarian descendents.

Situated on the edge of a large freshwater lake (called the Sea of Stars), the city is massive and heaving despite its relative newness. It was well-designed to accommodate both 'Vari and dragons, with wide streets and reinforced roof-tops meant to withstand clumsy tails and crash-landings, and built from local white stone that was dug out by wyrim. It is considered a new Wonder of the Worlds.

However, not all the Dracovari living in the White City are content to be "overlorded" by dragons. As a means of providing them with security and a measure of privacy, the city was designed around a central walled hub (almost like a palace and its grounds, but open to the 'Vari public) where dragons and tourists are forbidden. It is from here that the Oroboros rules.

Physical Geography

The land upon which the White City was built was a tremendous gift from dragons to their descendents. The majority of Nirim's lands are already abundantly fertile, and the Sea of Stars is even more idyllic. Surrounded by greenery land and straddling a major river, residents have their pick of fresh fish and crops.

Yet the city is also cleverly contained within the Vale of Tears, a long and verdant valley edged by sharp mountain ridges on either side. It is also blocked in at either end by the lake and a crashing waterfall. This ensures the safety of the residents, and protects the dragons from would-be trespassers, but also means there is a growing fear among residents that they have lost their independence as a species.

Inhabitants

The White City is entirely populated by Dracovari, for it was intended as their refuge from the increased risk of exposure on Earth. While dragons may come and go as they please (with some restrictions on their behaviour while within the city's jurisdiction), it is very much an enclave nation.

The city is, however, open to tourism. There is no portal in Nirim, but Bonded Summoners can serve as a taxi service, ferrying passengers to and from Elysia. For their own safety, these people are not permitted to leave the Vale of Tears at all, nor the city itself without an escort.

History

The White City was founded just ten years ago when, after exhaustive negotiations, the dragons agreed to permit entry to their realm. As a result, the city is still shiny and there are still plenty of open spaces yet to be developed.

¹ Other races are permitted entry into the White City, but solely as tourists, and they can only get there on dragonback. ⇑
