The Last ShrineThe Shrine of Xanth is the last known active sanctorium honouring Xanth and is ostensibly the responsibility of the Voice of Xanth. However, over time it became public property and there was a silent, assumed agreement between the citizens of Alexandria and the City Council to care for it between them. The quadrangle in which the shrine rests is a tiny space compared to the other greens in New Alexandria and centres around a fifteen-foot-tall statue made of purple marble. On each face of the square lawn are two marble benches back to back, and at each corner a sweeping chiolen that blooms year-round with unusual lilac blossoms. The quadrangle is intended to be a peaceful and tranquil spot for reflection and meditation as well as for prayer and making offerings to Xanth. For the most part, it maintains this appeal but the tranquility is occasionally lost amid the drama that comes with city life. Page last modified on February 17, 2012, at 07:06 PM |
