The Espureum

The Espureum was built off the coast of Espur roughly two centuries before the Alexandrian coliseum. It is widely acknowledged as one of the man-made wonders of the world and it was most likely envy that prompted Alexandrians to build their own version bigger and shinier.

Construction of the Espureum took nearly eighty years, and the cost in both lives and Nubian stone, was daunting, but the resulting masterpiece was to be the pride of Espur for millennia to come. Instead, the tombolo upon which the Espureum was built began to slowly crumbled and the spit of land connecting the Espureum to the city disappeared. Now, citizens may only access the Espureum by boat (a nice little side trade for fishermen during busy events) but it is surely only a matter of time until the stone megalith itself crashes into the sea.

Yet this circle of grey stone, built around an amphitheatre, is still used to this day as a spot for both theatrical performances, gladiator1 tournaments and sports competitions.

1 OOC: I'm not sure at this point if they're actually called gladiators, but it was the most concise way to describe what goes on here.
