Earth

Earth is the home of the ancestors. It was the domain of the dragons before Man could light a fire, and it was the place where humans first met Xanth. It was the birthplace of the Priesthood, of the Old Society, of every one of the known races. It was the start of everything Elysian.

They are glad to be rid of it.

Its Mediterranean region was where the Anyeli and then the Nymphs were first seen, and its Middle East saw the birth of the Zanaryans. Not so very long ago, it was still the base of many Dracovari, until they were forced to follow their brethren to Nirim.

Hiding on Earth used to be simple, despite the many prejudices faced if caught. These days, very few Elysians live there, or even travel there. Those who do must constantly be on their guard against accidentally exposing themselves and the rest of Elysia to the humans — or they are human themselves.

There used to be many portals here, hundreds of years ago. In the last century, they have disappeared one by one until less than half a dozen remain. Even they are expected to be shut down in the next few years, leaving just one, if that.

It's taken nearly four thousand years, but Elysians — and Xanth — are thoroughly done with the place.
