Acheron's Tear

Image from Wikipedia

Acheron's Tear (pronounced ACK-err-ohn) is one of the tallest waterfalls in Elysia, cascading down a mountainside in the Apolli range. Having chewed its way through several layers of rock, the water's stream is surrounded by six donut-shaped rings on its way down to a ravine that then carries the water into an underground river leading all the way to Lake Sybil.

Legend states that the waterfall gets its name from an old Anyeli war hero named Acheron, who had taken his family to live on a small plateau above the waterfall. They built a home for themselves and lived off the land, but they hadn't been there long when a group of Skotadi found them. Recognising Acheron, they attacked and left him for dead. When he regained consciousness, he found his home burned to the ground and his family killed.

Here, the story splits. Some say he was so grief-stricken that he threw himself over the cliff and into the waters below, while others say that his wrath was so great he destroyed each of the soldiers who had attacked him along with their families as an act of revenge.

Either way, the waterfall's name seems a fitting one.

Acheron's Tear is now the site of an historically and strategically significant fort.
