Purifier's Guild
The Purifier's Guild is an association of so-called "tradesmen" who use their elemental manipulation to purify the water supply and sewage of the larger settlements. It is because of them that Elysia's water remains so pure, even in such large cities as Espur and Nubia, and the guild was formed to ensure regulated wages and standards. RelationsPurification is a vital trade, since Elysia's sewage systems dump straight into the rivers. As a result, purifiers have always been in great demand. It's a largely thankless job, however, as most of the regular folk don't like to think of where their bathroom pipes lead, and there are creeping tensions within the guild as its members curry for better wages and recognition. TerritoriesThe Purifier's Guild has offices in every town large enough to require their services, but their headquarters is located at 38 Timberlake Crescent in Alexandria. OrganisationThe guild's employees thus fall into two categories: purifier, and administrator. Only Nyads and Mariid can be purifiers for obvious reasons, though the rarity of Zanaryans in Elysia means they are also incredibly rare as purifiers. However, since purifiers must by necessity spend most of their working lives underground in the sewers, they have little time for anything else — including paperwork — and thus must rely on guildmates of other species to handle their offices, and to act as liaisons and agents. HistoryPurifiers were once a very small part of the Fixer's Guild responsible for all engineering and architecture in urban areas. Before then, the waste from the towns had become a huge problem, especially for the Nymphs who were forced to clean it up after it was already too big a burden on the natural eco-system. Some Nyads had taken it upon themselves to purify the sewage that was being dumped into once-clean rivers, but theirs was a thankless — and unpaid — task so tensions between them and the townsfolk soon came to a boil. When a powerful Nyad named Kethael held her town to ransom in an effort to show them the error of their ways, it became clear that something had to change. And so, the Fixers took them in and agreed to act as their agents and liaisons, demanding better pay and that all towns standardise their sewage system to make the purifers' jobs easier. In return, town officials asked for standardisation of a purifier's work to prevent accidents and shoddy efforts from amateurs. These days, the Purifier's Guild is considered an organisation in its own right, even though (technically, at least) they are still under the Fixers' wing. JoiningAnyone can join the Purifier's Guild as an administrator, though there isn't a gread need for them. However, only Nyads and Mariid can be purifiers. These are in great demand, as the few available struggle to keep up with the needs of Elysia's many towns.
