Faust's Gang
Faust's Gang is a band of some 4–6 mercenaries who hire themselves on as protection for merchant caravans travelling the roads from Nubia to Espur. They did not make a conscious decision to be named "Faust's Gang", but are known within the trading community as such simply because Vilfredo Faust is their leader and negotiator. The group's reputation is three parts criminal and two parts legendary. Faust was already a hero of "the war" (though no one is ever quite sure which one) and has safely escorted any number of caravans to their destination. However, it would seem that not all of his colleagues are satisfied with playing bodyguard, and there are rumours that some of Faust's employees — and, most importantly, their cargo — has gone missing. PoliticsFaust's Gang in an informal group. The members all defer to Faust, but are otherwise free to do as they please. There are tensions within the band, just like there are in any group, but Faust comes down hard on outbreaks of physical violence. RelationsOwing to his reputation, Faust enjoys a profitable relationship with most merchants in Nubia and Espur. It doesn't usually take much to find an employer, though some Nubians doubt his motives, and he can negotiate quite a fee for his gang's services. TerritoriesFaust's Gang operates from his home on Baker's Street in Nubia. It's a small place so most of their meetings actually occur in the local tavern, but he keeps his paperwork in a tiny office in his house. HistoryFaust and two of his gang members made an appearance in The Dionica Crucible. JoiningOne need only have combat experience and be willing to hire out their services as a bodyguard in order to join Faust's Gang. However, if not originally from Nubia, then moving there is a must. Members must also be willing to travel almost constantly across the same landscape, put up with the complaints and vagaries of various merchants, and obey Faust's every command.
