The Cult of Aleron
The Cult of Aleron deifies a false god named Cassius Aleron, a Peteulanus who used his powers to enslave first his own family and then neighbours and friends as well. Though the original work was done with mind control and infliction, Aleron went on to use emotional and physical abuse as well. Already isolated because theirs was a small town in the wilds of the Daire Flatlands, Aleron cut them off from further contact by having them erect a wall around the town to ensure his absolute control. PoliticsAleron did not rely solely on his mind control to enslave Agronia. He picked people who had fallen completely under his sway to serve as his acolytes and to act on his behalf to ensure that those with stronger wills remained under his influence even when he couldn't control them directly. There was no formal hierarchy to the Cult and Aleron gave no titles to his acolytes, saving all the glory and power for himself. Yet, the trust he placed in his acolytes was enough to elevate them above the status of ordinary Agronians, entitling them to better provisions and to positions of leadership within the town itself. RelationsMembers of the Cult of Aleron do not consider themselves a cult and merely pawns to do His bidding. To them, they are simply Agronian, and the name "cult" came from outsiders when it became apparent that they were being controlled and isolated by a man they called a god. The Cult had very few dealings with outsiders and were intent on becoming self-sufficient. The wall Aleron had them build was intended to defend his little empire against those who might wish to undermine his hard work and free his slaves. He had as little as possible to do with other groups and organisations, even when it might have benefitted him or his people. TerritoriesThe Cult of Aleron never spread beyond the wall they built around their hometown, Agronia, which is why they are also known as "Agronians". Aleron did make a few attempts to spread his influence but found that regular meetings were essential to keeping his people enslaved. HistoryThe Culf was self-sustaining within Agronia's wall for years before Aleron took a fancy to a peddlar's daughter and got greedy. He kidnapped her, intending for her to be his new wife, but later discovered that she was also the daughter of a revered Sylph of Soryx — one of the largest Sylvan communities in the Fae. Once they had learned of Rosalie's abduction and subsequent enslavement, the Soryx Nymphs lay siege to the walled-off town and demanded her return. Finally, fearing the destruction of his miniature empire, Aleron returned Rosalie — but too late to assuage her mother's anger. He was suffocated by the Ayad in his attempt to escape and Agronia freed, but most of the townspeople still remained under the deceased Peteulanus' influence. To this day, some thirty years after his death, Cassius Aleron is still considered a god by the Agronians he enslaved. JoiningAleronites did not choose to join the Cult but were controlled by powerful Peteulani skills and Aleron's powerful charisma. With him gone, new members have been few and come from Agronia themselves, usually as children of the first generation who have, willingly or not, passed on their fear and deification of the man who held them in thrall.
