When the Old Society's peaceful methods fail to keep Elysia secret and safe, the Blood Rites Squad are called in. A small group of highly trained assassins and mercenaries, they will kill or die to protect Elysia and its inhabitants from their Ancestors.

Surprisingly, the BRS aren't called in all that often, but when they are, they must take exceptional care not to further the damage. Any weapons they use must be small, plain (so they can't be traced should the Blood Rites ever be captured) and hidden so they can pass on Earth as regular humans. More often than not, they cover their tracks by staging assassinations as accidents — all the better to keep Elysia's secrets.

However, if they are captured, Blood Rites are trained to withstand interrogation and to pass themselves off as regular humans. Since a rescue mission would do more to draw attention to them and Elysia than is healthy for either, they are abandoned to their fate.

Joining

To join the Blood Rites Squad, the potential member must first and foremost be human and have proven their loyalty not only to the Old Society as a group but to their mandate of keeping Elysia secret and safe (just to be sure the organisation never has a higher priority than their cause).

However, as a military force, members must also have combat training and have no qualms about killing innocents just to keep their secret safe. For that reason alone, BRS members have to be cold and unaffected.

Since the majority of their missions take place on Earth, BRS members are also trained to pass as Terrans, as well as to withstand interrogations and survive cut off from all they know and love should they ever be captured. Joinees who already show such qualities stand a much greater chance of being accepted.
