Occupation: Matthias owns a small farm near the Three Sisters on Dardanos, where he and his wife raise and breed taroch. Matthias is the one who does most of the manual labour, and he spends most of his days out on his land.

Description: Matthias is a very serious, formal kind of man with a heap of old-fashioned beliefs. Though he hasn't been much of a fighter for centuries, he was raised as a Rutilus in a long line of them and taught from an early age that honour and duty are integral to survival.

His seriousness is what makes his relationship with his two youngest, Kiel and Chloe, such a delicate and hazardous one. He doesn't get on with their happy-go-lucky attitudes and has tried all their lives to teach them the same values on which his own life is founded. (He doesn't yet realise that they have learned these things, and can only see their fickle natures.) He gets on much better with his studious elder children, and is especially proud of Tad for his ambition.

As with his children, Matthias has a somewhat distant relationship with his wyrm, Aelia. The pair have been bonded for so long that they have developed a great loyalty to each other, but neither would really call the other "friend" and they only really speak if one has need of the other.
