The Noticeboard

If you're struggling for ideas or just want to take part in something that's a bit more "official", why not try these? You can get ONPC help with these, but we encourage self-guided quests wherever possible.

The Noticeboard

The Noticeboard is an out-of-character representation of the many noticeboards and posters found in various shops, businesses and even on the streets of Elysia's towns. Your character can find all kinds of jobs here (usually posted by needy NPCs, but PCs can post them too) that you can claim to give your character something to do. (Hunters, especially, will get most of their jobs this way.) There may even be the odd quest where your character is approached directly on the street and asked for their help!

Most of these jobs will have rewards which will vary in value according to the job type and how well you played it out (making your quest realistic, involving other characters and/or NPCs, not relying on staff involvement, completing the quest and doing so in a timely fashion with it will all net you a much better prize than finishing the thread with minimum effort).

Some jobs and bounties will even be listed multiple times (for instance, you might find an official poster made by the Town Guard as well as unofficial posters made by affected NPCs), so you may be able to combine quests and claim multiple rewards as long (as you can provide proof of your success to each of the (N)PCs involved!

The Noticeboard also includes posters for both criminal and monster bounties, so if your character is a (head)hunter or fancies a bit of adventure, they can take up the task of capturing or killing (N)PCs or creatures for a cash reward! Just remember: If the bounty is or belongs to a PC, contact them for permission before claiming the job.

A note to criminals
If you make a name for yourself as participating in illegal activities (such as stealing) in-character, then your character's name may appear as a bounty! If this occurs you will receive notice so you can try to do something about it, but such are the consequences of breaking the law. ;)

Anatomy of a Quest

You can expect a quest listing to look like this:

Errand : All the way home

After conversing with your local baker, you learn that he recently rescued a griffin cub from poachers. The baker would like to release the newly healed cub back into the wild but is afraid the young animal will just be captured again and doesn't have time to travel to the griffin's natural habitat himself. "Say, you wouldn't be headed to the coast, would you?"
  • Employer: Serin Mandrake, Human
  • Starting Location: Alexandria
  • Objectives:
    • Escort the griffin cub to its natural habitat (the mountains or the coast).
    • Protect and care for the griffin cub on the way.
    • Release the cub into its natural habitat.
    • Return to Mandrake with proof that you released the cub and that it's doing well.
    • Alternatively, you could take the cub to a beastmaster who will domesticate it for a price.
  • Rewards:
    • ΞΆ100 from the Town Guard
    • +/-1 from Ranulph Arline

And here all that is explained:

Type
Quests are categorised by type, which ultimately determines the kind of quest you can expect and how much fighting or other activity might be involved.
  • Bounty quests entail going after a specific (N)PC or creature at the request of another (N)PC.
  • Adventure quests require a large amount of travel across wild and dangerous territories.
  • Errand quests are usually contained within a single town and involve delivering items or completing chores.
  • Hunt & Gather quests involve gathering specific materials (plant, animal or otherwise) and often mean travelling to local rural or suburban areas.
Description
The quest's description summarises how your character "acquires" the job, and the basic story behind it.
Employer
The (N)PC you need to satisfy before you can be paid.
Starting Location
Some quests will specify where they begin, depending on where the employer lives or the circumstances involved. Other quests will leave this open so you can begin wherever is the most convenient starting location for your character.
Objectives
Where the description gives a brief overview of what the employer wants you to do, the objectives list tells you the exact criteria for completion. You may also find alternatives and optional extras which may alter or increase the rewards.
Rewards
This lists the minimum rewards only, for if you complete the bare minimum of objectives at the Average level. You could stand to earn much more.
Rewards may be in-character from the employer(s), or out-of-character from the Noticeboard.
  • Cash is presented with a little squiggle ζ .
  • Fame is presented as a +positive number, and infamy as a -negative number.
  • You could also earn items from mundane (for Average quests) to epic (for Legendary quests).
Restrictions
Not all quests will have restrictions listed, but when they do then at least one person participating in the quest must meet that restriction, but not everyone needs to.
Difficulty
Difficulty is determined by how many posts you've made, between all the participating characters, for a single or combined quest. The more effort you put in to a quest, the more rewards you could receive. (The trophies you can earn are also judged by quest difficulty.)
  • 10 posts — Average
  • 20 posts — Notable
  • 30 posts — Remarkable
  • 40 posts — Legendary

Claiming Quests

If a quest catches your eye and you'd like to run with it, you need to post a claim on this thread using the code below, and then put a [Q] tag in your thread title.

          Quest Title:
          Style:
          Participants:
          Link to Thread:

Beware! If your thread is abandoned or your character is retired before the thread is complete, you'll forfeit the reward. If the thread has been abandoned for more than six months and has less than 10 posts, the job/assignment may also be reposted for someone else to claim. However, you may reclaim a quest once after it's been cancelled so you can finish it.

In the case of bounties, either criminal or animal, you will not only forfeit the prize and the claim, but it will also be assumed your character failed IC and you will receive -1 infamy.

Note: Abandon too many quests and your reputation will sink via the Fame System until none of the NPCs will hire you. If this happens, you will receive a moderator's notice in your last claim post and you'll need to wait a month before trying to claim another quest.

Claiming Rewards

To claim any rewards for completed quests, post in this thread with the form1 below.

          Link to Claim:
          Link to Quest Thread:

Your quest will then be evaluated by the ONPC team who will determine and send appropriate rewards to all the involved participants.

Note: Quests posted by PCs cannot be claimed in this way. Instead, any rewards should be discussed with and received from the player who posted the quest, but remember that PCs can't give rewards they don't already possess.

1 Please give a direct link to the post in which you made your claim, not just a link to the claim thread! If you're not sure how to do this, check this FAQ.
