What do the symbols mean? — Obsolete

This question was made obsolete by the new wiki skin, but was left as a marker since removing it would change all the #anchor tags…

How do I create an account on the wiki?

EF's wiki doesn't have accounts in the strictest sense because it relies on passwords (which you can get from the sidebar on the forums or by asking the admins) to grant access instead. However, you are required to sign any wiki page you've created or edited so it's easier to track who has done what as well as to make sure authors retain full credit for their work.

Signing your name creates a link to a wiki profile page, either on the wiki page you're editing or in the page's history. You can use this profile page to describe yourself or link to your characters and contributions (you can view Emma's profile page to see an example).

What can I use my wiki profiles for?

Generally speaking, you can put anything you like on your profile page as long as it's PG-13, although obviously we do want to keep it EF-related. We certainly suggest including a little bit about yourself and strongly recommend linking to your characters. You can also list all the wiki pages you've worked on if you like (the wiki automatically creates Author-Contrib pages, such as Emma-Contrib, which lists all the pages you've worked on. This allows you to either link to your -Contrib page or (:include:) it in your profile if you want.

How do I sign my work?

There are a couple of different ways to sign pages you've created or edited.

  1. Use the "Author" field on the "Editing [Page]" form to insert your name. This option allows you to sign your work so authors can be viewed in the page's history without having a link to your profile on the page itself.

EF's wiki is set up to not only remember your name every time you edit/create a page, but also to require it before saving or publishing, so this method is recommended. However, you're often asked in submission templates, normally under the "Created by" field, to also use #2.
  2. Use the [[~author]] markup (eg. writing [[~Emma]] creates a link to Emma's profile page). This method is required in certain submission templates, such as for the Bestiary and Herbarium, but I strongly recommend also using option #1.

Whichever option you prefer, you must sign your work.
